Cyril Binnom Sr

Obituary Cyril Augustus Binnom Sr. died peacefully at home on July 6, 2026, in Lauderhill, FL, at the age of 87, with his loving wife, Carmen Binnom, by his side. Cyril was born on August 11, 1938, in Colón, Republic of Panama, to Kelvin H. Binnom and Mildred Slocum. At 19 years old, he immigrated to the United States on April 18, 1958. Cyril was a veteran of the United States Army, serving proudly from April 14, 1959, through April 4, 1961. He married Brenda Cadogan in 1961, a union that yielded three children: Danielle, Cyril Jr., and Corey. In 1980, he met the love of his life, Carmen Phinn, and they were married on June 22, 1984, in Brooklyn, NY. After 20+ years of living in Brooklyn, the couple moved to Lauderhill, FL, in 2003 and ramped up an already insatiable taste for traveling that spanned the entire globe. Cyril and Carmen traveled to many destinations but were particularly fond of cruising. Their longest cruise was 52 days through French Polynesia in 2019. He would often say, “Anything less than two weeks on the water is too short.” Cyril began working for New York City Transit in September 1969. A dedicated worker, he retired from his position as Tower Worker in June 1996 after 27 years of service. Cyril was an avid detectorist, taking his metal detector with him wherever he and Carmen traveled the globe. When home, he was often found on Fort Lauderdale Beach for several hours a day, searching for hidden treasures. Cyril was a conversationalist who often used his gift for gab to strike up a back-and-forth with strangers in English or Spanish — he was fluent in both languages. His children remember him as a driven, supportive, and loving father who encouraged them and was always willing to help them pursue their goals. Cyril is survived by his wife, Carmen Binnom, of Lauderhill, FL; children Danielle R. Binnom of St. Petersburg, FL, Cyril A. Binnom Jr. of Hanahan, SC, and Corey D. Binnom of Fredericksburg, VA; sister-in-law Marcia Phinn of Kissimmee, FL; grandchildren Jamal Binnom of Orlando, FL, Kailah L. Binnom of Rock Hill, SC, and Cyril A. Binnom III of Charlotte, NC; and nephew Jayson Phinn of Brooklyn, NY. Cyril leaves behind a host of cousins, nephews, and nieces.
