Grethel Dodds

Mrs. Grethel Dodds Born August 28, 1924 in Wesley, Dominica, she was the only child to her deceased parents, Claude Peterson and Mariah Cyvilia Henry. She lived most of her life in Dominica and moved the Florida in her golden years, to be closer to the majority of her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Grethel Dodds died at 87 years of age, on March 30, 2012, at home with her family at her side, and the competent assistance of Vitas-Hospice. She was married for 53 years to her loving husband, now deceased Titus Dodds. Together they had 11 children, 5 sons and 6 daughters who are all here today to celebrate her life. In addition to their 11 birth children, Mrs. Dodds and her husband were also blessed with 2 adopted daughters, Valarie Dodds and Merlyn Telemaque. Her 5 sons are: Ivon Dodds (wife: Cynthia), Monbatten Dodds (wife: Bonnie), Crighton Dodds (partner: Latifa); Nicholson-Mervin Dodds (wife: Julietta); and Kemma Dodds (wife: Claudette). Her 6 daughters are: Shirley Antoine (husband: Lewis Antoine), Rosemarie Palmer (husband: Mylton Palmer), Magdelin Albert (husband: Kelvin Albert), Elizabeth Jerome (husband: Edgar Jerome), Beverley Mills (husband: Derrick Mills); and Glenis Mills (husband: Charles Mills). Mrs. Dodds was also blessed with 31 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren and many other close relatives and friends, including her former daughter-in-law Henrietta. Mrs. Dodds lived a long and celebrated life and was a great help and support to her community. Mrs. Dodds had two professions, both made her well known and enmeshed in the lives of her small village community in Wesley, Dominica. She was a Midwife and an accomplished Dressmaker. Through most of her career, she was one of the two Midwives in her community, assisting in the birth of hundreds of babies during her career. Throughout her career as a Dressmaker, she created beautiful wedding gowns and formal dresses for customers who were amazed and thrilled by her skill and creativity that resulted in the beautiful clothing she created for them. Mrs. Dodds was also an active member of her church community and was the organist for her church for many years. She was sadly predeceased by her beloved husband, Titus Dodds on September 15, 2003, her stepson James Dodds, and her grandson, Cleveland Gregory Andrew on December 28, 2006. Mrs. Dodds will always be remembered lovingly as a good friend, courageous mother, and grandmother of conviction with sound values, a creative spirit with a sense of humor and a laughter that was contagious if it wasn't at your expense.
